This year’s HOPE CURES 5K took place Sunday June 4th, 2023! It could not have been a better weather day to run 3.1 miles – no excuses!
We had a very competitive group this year – lots of great times were posted along with those out for the cause.
Thank you to everyone who participated this year!!
The 5K benefits groundbreaking research being conducted by “rising stars” at the Penn State Cancer Institute in Hershey.
I shared an update from one of the doctors we have supported over the years, Dr. Zheng. Her research recently received the covetedAmerican Cancer Society Research Scholar Grant for her work on a therapy for Leukemia patients. We provided her lab the seed $ to start her research
which has now shown so much potential that it is being introduced into clinical trials with patients!!!
Over the years, Hope Cures has given back over $520,000.00 to the Penn State Cancer Institute.
I also gave an update on the For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Facility at Woodloch. The project continues to move forward through
the fundraising & planning phases with a goal of breaking ground in 2024. The project will create the first of its kind facility designed
to provide a getaway for late stage cancer patients and their families.
I want to recognize all the VOLUNTEERS (25) under the leadership of Dee Austin,
who dedicated a good portion of their Sunday to the cause and resulting In the event running so smoothly,
THANK YOU!!!!!
The loyal support of our sponsors continued to be strong lead by; Sysco Foodservice, Boars Head Provisions, Joe Pavornik/Brucelli Advertising,
Bold Gold Media Group, Pepsi, Wallenpaupack Brewing Co., Black & Brass Roasting Co. & All One Charities.
Almost all of the departments at Woodloch get involved in some way to make
the HC5K happen and in being successful. Thank you for your time & effort that you pour into the event.
Top Fundraisers this year were Joe Moore & Becky Tyler – THANK YOU!
